I've been looking forward to tomorrow's Vice Presidential Debate for some time now. Personally, I'm hoping that Biden shows Palin for the know-nothing she is (I'm pretty sure that I could beat her in a debate). Unfortunately, there's a new wrinkle that might spoil all my fun.
Gwen Ifill is going to be moderating. Gwen Ifill is also openly pro-Obama. Rats.
In this case it doesn't matter that I agree with her, what matters is that she has an obvious bias at all. Even if she performs perfectly, and with absolute fairness, this opens the debates up to doubt. It also gives anyone wanting to cast stones after the fact a target.
I know that Ifill is a competent and respected journalist, and I'm sure she'll do fine, but couldn't they have found someone who won't raise such an obvious question mark?

While I think that this represents a pretty big screw-up on the part of the debate committee, as well as a failure of judgement on the part of Ifill herself (assuming she did not bring her book to said committees attention), I suspect she will do fine, and the candidates performances will ultimately be the story here. I hope so anyway.
I'm sure she will, I just wish they hadn't put such a big target up for anyone wanting to discredit whatever happens.
Also, if you bought the D40 (or another camera for that matter) you should do a follow up post on how it's working out for you.
I think you intended to comment on my "Another Example of Why Less is Often More" post, about trying to decide what kind of DSLR to buy.
I haven't been able to afford any yet, but one I do you can expect a full review.
Can you say, "non-issue"? In fact, Ifill's may have been the most impressive performance of any moderator I've seen in years.
Yeah, I totally agree, she was solid and more than fair. So far no one's claiming otherwise, so I guess it all worked out.
